Line Mechanic | Canterbury
We are a leading contractor in the electrical distribution industry responsible for the design, construction and maintenance of overhead and underground lines and equipment. We have a large presence in the Canterbury community with a local Christchurch Head Office - so you may already know us, your rangatahi might play sport in a team we sponsor, or you may have seen our Community BBQ kiosk supporting local events. In addition to our Christchurch location, we are across New Zealand with a purpose-built depot in Tawa.
Grow, care, connect - three words that mean a lot around here. At Connetics we believe in #AllWays Connecting and we don't just mean people to electricity. For our kaimahi this means connecting to development and learning to grow your career, making a connection with workplace legends like yourself who become your trusted work partner, and importantly being connected to an employer who cares for you, your family, and our environment. While the work might be the same at any employer, what makes the difference is who the employer is, who your work mates are, and how you are supported to grow, care, and connect.
The Role
We are seeking to engage qualified Line Mechanics with a minimum of three years' experience in overhead line construction, maintenance, and fault response across the New Zealand electrical distribution network, operating from 400 V low-voltage through to 66 kV sub-transmission.
Candidates must have demonstrated experience in distribution and supply systems, including live low-voltage work on 400 V networks, with a strong working knowledge of the Electricity (Safety) Regulations 2010, relevant EEA codes of practice, and network owner requirements with a current EWRB license.
Experience in high-voltage switching, isolation and access procedures, permit-to-work systems, and the safe use of EWPs and climbing techniques is highly regarded. Applicants must be competent in working within approved safety management systems and maintaining compliance with New Zealand electrical and workplace health and safety standards.
You will join a friendly, social team who have a great time together, look out for one another and are absolutely committed to everyone's safety. You'll bring strong written and oral English skills, an open mind, and confidence to bring new ideas to the table. The role is full time (40 hours per week). However, you'll also be happy for some work-related travel - sometimes you'll have to go where you're needed to maintain and restore networks.
